The best tinnitus cure is no cure at all
A question I hear all the time is:
“What is the best tinnitus cure?” seriously If I had the answer to that question I’d be a multi millionaire. I still stand by my conviction, which is, if anyone says they have the cure for tinnitus, be cautious, very cautious indeed. Personally I try very hard not to use the word cure when it comes to tinnitus, I find it misleading and cruel. Because as yet there is no magical pill, herb or miracle cure which will rid you of your tinnitus.
Before I get into this blog post, please let me ask you two questions. These questions were pitted to me many years ago by an ENT and subsequently changed my life with tinnitus forever.
“With over 20 million people in the US afflicted with tinnitus, why is it only a very small percentage actually suffer from tinnitus?” (Believe it or not the vast majority either naturally habituate in a short amount of time or are completely oblivious of the offending noise.)
“So what is the difference between those who just aren’t bothered by tinnitus and those who suffer?”
According to research, it has nothing to do with the volume, tone or type of tinnitus you are afflicted with. Rather it has everything to do with your nervous system and how you emotionally respond to the stimuli.
So, with that said, what do I recommend as the best cure for tinnitus? What did I do to pacify and override my tinnitus and go from tinnitus sufferer to someone who was no longer bothered by it?
It starts with getting the facts straight about the true origins of tinnitus and why you are suffering in the first place. Incorrect information often leads to an intensification and an exaggeration of symptoms and thoughts, resulting in a dysfunctional thinking pattern regarding tinnitus, These negative and damaging patterns only serve to increase the hopeless emotions associated with tinnitus, further strengthening distress and preventing acceptance, which perhaps counter intuitively does lead to eventual relief.
The main steam approach to tinnitus and its supposed cures tend to revolve around viewing tinnitus as an isolated phenomenon. Sort of how you’d approach a common cold or a migraine headache.
But it is now believed that we might actually be doing more harm than good when searching out a quick fix cure for a subjective, emotionally based condition.
Why is this? Well, when the psychological stress of another inevitable failure sets in the disappointment and despair you “yet again” feel, has a compounding effect on ones psychological state, adding to an intensity of awareness of your tinnitus. When constantly searching for a magical quick fix solution outside of your body, either in the form of a pill, herb, supplement, diet, fast or some far out suggestion, we only fortifying a victim mindset and avoid the REAL reason why we are suffering. If we do not get to the root of our suffering we are delaying our recovery.
As I have stated above when addressing “What is the best cure for tinnitus?” Tinnitus is an emotional condition with its roots deeply grounded in our nervous system. Tinnitus is also a subjective condition; otherwise everyone out of the 50 million worldwide who are afflicted would be suffering just like you are (but we know that only a small percentage actually suffer from tinnitus, the vast majority are either oblivious or self habituate in a relatively short amount of time.)
The ultimate question you need to be asking is “how have they managed to do this? And how can I be like them?”
Well we did ask those question and we found the answers for you. It’s a process of self-habituation and it all starts with breaking the Cycle of Suffering.
How to get rid of your tinnitus? Understanding the root cause of your suffering
When we open our mind to the idea that we are unconsciously the reason for our suffering, we begin to realize that we are also the solution. We are embracing a new paradigm and it is this new mindset that can have a profound effect on how we view our tinnitus. This is the only way to find true tinnitus relief, it will not come from an external source, such as a vitamin, herb or pill, if that was the case it would have been found and shared a long, long time ago. The only commonly prescribed medication for chronic tinnitus is antidepressants, but antidepressant treatment only bolsters the fact that tinnitus suffering is subjective and influenced by your emotional perspective. Antidepressants do not make your tinnitus disappear, they simply change your emotional state; they alter your perspective. The last time you asked the question “how do I get rid of tinnitus” did anyone ever tell you that you can do it without powerful, addictive drugs or surgery?
The power of self-habituation is incredible
With self-habituation there are no drugs, no pills, no extreme fasts, no detoxes, no herbs, no masking devices or anything of an extreme nature. By locating and addressing the true source of your discomfort, you join a very elite few who have managed to treat their Tinnitus by breaking the habitual pattern of their suffering. Once you have mastered this, there is no going back—for you have essentially rewired your system.
