The single most helpful practice for my tinnitus has got to be a technique called Tapping or EFT
A friend of mine who happened to be utilizing a technique called tapping or (add link) emotional freedom technique for an issue unrelated to tinnitus. Turned me onto this under utilized powerful therapy. The way he described EFT to me got me thinking about my tinnitus and the whole mind body connection.
Tapping for tinnitus seemed like such a practical solution to me. A logical process in which psychological conditions can be brought into the physical realm; where they then can be practically dealt with and dissipated through the body. I did some research, attended some sessions and I soon realized how easy it was to utilize and self-administer EFT on a daily basis.
The aspect of meridian energy and acupuncture points really appealed to me, as acupuncture (Which also works on meridian points) was one of the only modems that I experienced any relief from my ear pressure.
I initially loved the fact that it was so easy to perform, quick and easy to personalize.
How does it work?
Tapping essentially works by intentionally activating an energy disturbance within the body. Either from thinking about a painful memory, or perhaps just feeling your feelings about what is bothering you. In the case of tinnitus it could be just listening to it or thinking about how it makes you feel.
While the energy disturbance is activated, you tap with your fingertips on the 10 acupuncture (acupressure) points, in order to clear out the energy disturbance in the affected meridians. As the disturbance gets cleared through the tapping technique, you will experience your negative emotions associated with your tinnitus actually begin to drain away.
When the energy disturbance has been completely cleared, your negative emotions either towards tinnitus or the tinnitus itself will be gone.
What is essential is that the energy disturbance remains activated the whole time you are tapping in order to completely clear it. Therefore, you have to keep your attention and focus on the negative feelings associated with tinnitus while tapping until those feelings are gone. Getting distracted or thinking about two things at once can interfere with tapping. But this of course takes a little practice, that’s why over the course of several years we at tinnitus retrain designed the simplest and most effective tinnitus tapping routines to help you dissipate the troubling emotions attached to your tinnitus.
Release
The tapping for tinnitus technique works by releasing blockages within the electrical system, which it is believed is the source of emotional intensity and discomfort. It is now widely accepted that emotional disharmony is a key factor in physical symptoms and disease and for this reason these techniques are being extensively used on physical issues, including tinnitus and other acute and chronic illnesses, with often astounding results. As such, these techniques are being accepted more and more in conventional medical circles as well as in a wide range of healing disciplines.
We have discussed in blog posts that emotional health is an absolutely essential factor towards overall health. Sleep is important, diet is important and so is exercise, but no matter how devoted you are to those disciplines, you will not achieve your body’s ideal optimal health if emotional dis-harmony (like tinnitus) stands in your way.
These blockages in our electrical system are largely due to stress, which challenges us emotionally and physically.
When EFT is used in combination with the other therapies seen in TRS we see a rounded habituation process, one that gets to the root of our emotional attachment to tinnitus and also to our physical and nervous response to the stimuli.
